Halloween 2023

A bit late but still nice to see…

Maya managed to get dressed for Halloween on three different occasions and three different costumes. So she obviously had a wonderful time this Halloween.

Some of the pictures are of her school costume dance party, the face painting was for her hula dance and finally trick-or-treating Halloween night with Moony at a place they call Sprecklesville.

Link to iliahi hula dance below.

Sawyer on the other hand mistakenly had a little dairy at the Haleakala Waldorf School Night of Delight Halloween Festival and shortly after that came down with the flu so he wasn’t able to do the trick or treating this year… But look at the bright side! he didn’t have to eat all that candy! … isn’t that wonderful! 😉 plus its so rare and peaceful while sleeping when he’s sick. Shortly after Halloween Maya and Daddy also got sick because we had some of the dairy too.

You can see sawyer in the car sleeping. I was going to hang out with him in the car on Halloween night but he told me he wanted to go home and sleep.

And finally Maya painted a Halloween pastel drawing with a black cat that reminded all of us of Lucy and her beautiful new home in San Jemez National forest in New Mexico.

Ami, Alastar and Miwa visit Maui for the Ukulele Festival at the Macc Center

Ami, Alastar and Miwa came to Maui to visit and perform at the ukulele festival at the MACC center. Alastar plays in the band called Beetlele which is like beetles songs on the ukulele and tours all over the country.
At the festival we entered into a raffle for each of us Edward Maya and Sawyer to win ukulele prizes throughout the festival. Almost at the very end of the festival when we were getting ready to get going, They were announcing the final ukulele give away which was the most expensive one, called a concert edition Kamaka ukulele worth over $1,600 and they called Sawyer’s name! The announcer said that Sawyer jumped 3 feet off the ground when they called his name. He loves playing his cheapo swap meat ukulele that only cost $50. So he totally deserves that prize and has really enjoyed playing it since he won it. He had all the ukulele performers sign it and also the organizer.
The next day we had a lot of fun together going to the beach and then at the end of the day we all crammed in and broke the record for the most people in our two person sauna!
We had a lot of fun and we hope that Ami, Alastar and Miwa can come and visit again soon!

Finally! We Made Home-Made Chocolate! So Delicious

…considering we love it so much. I’m surprised it took so long to finally try it. Well… Sawyer actually made most of it, but then me and Maya finished it up because sawyer had a sleepover at his friend Dilan’s house.

We sweetened with maple syrup and coconut sugar. But was all dairy free. In fact I don’t know why you even need poison? ..oh I mean dairy. It tastes so good just like we made it.

We got these pretty chocolate diamond molds and ingredients online.

Haleakala Waldorf School Michaelmas Festival 2023

The kids had their first Michaelmas festival at the school. It was full of games and competitions for the kids. There was even a whole school tug of war.
Safety’s favorite was the belly of the beast slip and slide where they got all wet.
Sawyer got second fastest for rope climb at 12 seconds, right after his classmate Aleia who had 9 seconds. The rope climb was about 12’ high.
Enjoy the linked video of a portion of the opening festival.
The picture with the knights (Sawyer’s class) on the ground was right after the dragon (Maya’s Class) breathed on the knights and cast a sleep spell on them.
The little gnomes were first graders. But they were so cute I couldn’t resist sharing.

River Rafting Down the Grand Canyon – Summer 2023

Thanks to the kids for tolerating daddy’s trip to the Grand Canyon 😉 This was a childhood dream of mine. When I was younger and we were also driving cross country with Tim, Eva, uncle John, uncle Greg and Daddy we stopped here and I was amazed at a river rafter photo through the Grand Canyon at the tourist center. I asked if we could go on the river rafting trip and they told me it was booked up for two years already. So 30 or so years later I finally was able to ride down the Grand Canyon. Instead of just seeing it from the edge like I did. The kids were able to see it from the river. Probably the best way to view it. BTW it doesn’t seem that big from the river view?

Along the River we stopped at a waterfall where we climbed up steep ladders, got wet and played around a little bit and swam in the pool at the bottom of the falls.

At one point we were able to put on our life vests and jump in and float down the river for about a half a mile or so. That was probably my highlight.

We rode all the way to the end of the Canyons. Huge cliffs, then you come out of the last bend and bam! Flat desert.

Finally Made it to Forage Mushrooms with Auntie-Sa!

Auntie Sa took us to Turkey Run Park here in Louisville. We foraged for mushrooms and found coral, Jelly and chanterelle mushrooms. We had to watch out for poison ivy / oak which was exciting.

Maya and Sawyer Rock’n out on the Ukulele

Maya and Sawyer were practicing ukulele together on the couch, and I managed to catch this little jam session they did together. So hard to catch these little jewels, so I’m happy i was able to be able to share it.

Our family broken Rice Cooker version of the Office Space Movie Printer Scene…

We got this rice cooker for our wedding. After 16 years it has served us well but it was breaking apart, dents in the bowl, even bugs were stuck in the digital display! Instead of just throwing it in the trash we decided to pull an Office Space (the movie) and smash it up and get some much needed release. We got a nice new beautiful rice cooker to replace it already.

For those of you who don’t know the movie, shame on you. 😉 It is a classic. You have to watch it. But here is the scene.
